One per room, not one per baby. Twins sharing a nursery share a humidifier.

A humidifier changes the air in a room, so two units in one nursery just fog the windows. The only reason twins need two is two bedrooms, or one for the nursery and one for your room during the six months of room-sharing. The bigger question is whether you need one at all: in a dry-winter climate with heated air, yes. In a humid apartment, we'd skip it.

The first dry season, or the first cold. It is not a before-birth purchase.

Cool mist only in a nursery, and empty and dry the tank daily. A used unit is fine if the tank and base scrub clean with no mineral crust or mildew smell.

Two if you have the floor space. One works with rotation but creates fights once they realize what's happening.

Twins want to do the same thing at the same time. Two jumpers reduce conflict and give you 15-minute hands-free windows.

Around month 4–5.

Two Evenflo ExerSaucers ($70 each).

One at home: a twin-size play yard or a large gated pen. For travel, two standard pack and plays because each baby needs their own sleep surface.

At home a pack and play is a containment zone, not a bed, and one big play yard holds two crawlers better than two cramped rectangles. The math changes on the road: if twins sleep in pack and plays at a hotel or grandparents' house, that's two. Most twin families we know end up with one large pen at home and borrow or store a second pack and play for trips.

The home pen around month 6 to 8, when crawling starts. Travel units only when a trip is on the calendar.

One baby per sleep surface. A pack and play is fine for one twin to nap in, never both. Check the model against recall lists and use only the mattress pad it came with.

No. One large mat or a twin-specific gym beats two small ones, and floor space is the constraint anyway.

Play gyms are floor time, and two babies fit on one generous mat lying side by side or head to head. Two small gyms eat twice the living room and get shoved together within a week. The Skip Hop Double-Up is built for exactly this. Buy a second cheap mat only if you need one on another floor.

Around month 1 to 2, when they start tracking the toys overhead.

Fisher-Price Deluxe Kick & Play (around $50). It's a single-baby gym but wide enough for two newborns.

One generously sized mat works. Both twins can do tummy time and play side by side.

One mat with multiple toys works for parallel play. The Skip Hop Double-Up is twin-specific.

Around month 1–2.

One at most. You have one lap and a twin feeding pillow that holds both babies. Skipping it entirely is defensible too.

A glider is for the parent, not the baby, and one parent feeding two babies sits in one chair. The case for one: a wide-armed chair with a tandem pillow makes the 3 AM double feed survivable, and you'll spend hundreds of hours in it. The case for none: the sofa already exists, twin gliders are wide enough only if you shop carefully, and it is the most-regretted nursery purchase we hear about. Two is only for two parents feeding at once in the same room, and a second sofa cushion covers that.

Before birth if buying, so it's in place for the first tandem feed. Sit in it with a twin pillow first.

Ikea Poäng (around $130) or a used glider from a twin resale group. Wide arms matter more than brand.

Yes for daytime. Having two soothing seats so each baby has a place to be put down is a game-changer.

Twin parents need somewhere to put each baby down. Two bouncers or swings give you two safe seats while you handle the other.

Before birth.

Never let twins sleep in a swing or bouncer. AAP guidance is flat sleep surfaces only.

Skip. Not two, not one. Twins get changed twenty times a day and neither will notice a room-temperature wipe.

A wipe warmer solves a problem that stops existing after week two, when both babies are used to wipes. It also dries out the top wipes, needs an outlet at every changing station (twins usually have two), and gets left behind when you move changing to the living room. Warm a wipe in your hand for three seconds if it bothers you.

Never. Put the money toward a second changing pad or a bigger wipe subscription.

Buy wipes in bulk instead. Twins go through roughly twice the wipes anyone expects.

Count doorways, not babies. Two crawlers do not need more gates than one, just tougher ones. Most twin homes land on two or three.

A gate blocks an opening, and twins share the same openings. What changes with two is the abuse: two toddlers lean on the same gate at once and figure out latches as a team, so cheap pressure gates fail faster. Walk the house and count: top of stairs, bottom of stairs, the kitchen, maybe the room with the dog or the desk. That number is your count.

Around month 7 to 9, when the first one crawls. The second crawls within days, in our experience.

Hardware-mounted gates only at the top of stairs. Pressure gates belong in doorways and at the bottom. Check used gates for a working latch and no missing hardware.
