Cribs for twins
Two cribs, eventually, but not necessarily on day one. Twins can start in bassinets, and some share nothing but a room from the start. By four to six months, when rolling starts, each twin needs their own crib, so buy both at once (matching heights make the room work) even if one stands empty for a while.
Used cribs are fine when the model is current-standard and recall-free, with no missing hardware and no drop side (those are banned for a reason). The non-negotiable: new mattresses in both, always. Convertible cribs earn their price with twins because buying the toddler bed conversion twice later hurts more.
Safety note: Verify the crib is not under recall and the mattress fits snugly with no gaps.
Every verdict follows the same playbook. How we decide.
