From the desk
The Symphony is the hospital-grade pump you rent, not buy. About $60 to $80 a month from major rental services (Yummy Mummy, Aeroflow, Bay-area lactation pharmacies, hospital lactation departments). For twin moms in two specific situations, we'd rent it.
Situation one: you're exclusively pumping for both twins, six to eight times a day. The Symphony is more efficient than any consumer pump, which means each session is faster. Across 240 sessions a month, the time savings is significant. Situation two: your supply is struggling and the consumer pump isn't moving the needle. The Symphony's stronger, gentler suction sometimes restarts a stalled supply. Talk to an IBCLC before assuming this is your problem.
If you're combo-feeding (some breast, some bottle, some formula) and the consumer pump is fine, you don't need the Symphony.
Why we say buy one
Rent one for as long as you need it (one to three months for most twin moms). Don't buy one. The motor is overkill for everyday use after the establishment phase.

The decision behind this pick
Do I need a double electric breast pump for twins?
Yes if you're breastfeeding. Single pumps double the time you spend pumping. Most US insurance covers a double pump.
Why
Twin moms produce more and pump more. A double pump is a baseline. Hospital-grade rentals make sense for the first 2 months while supply is being established.
When to buy
Before birth; check insurance coverage.
