From the desk
The KeyFit (and the newer KeyFit 35) is the most-installed infant car seat in the US for a reason. The base self-tightens, the harness has only a few moving parts, and the seat clicks into the base loud enough that you know it's actually locked in. For twin parents, where you'll be installing and reinstalling two of these for the first year, that simplicity matters more than any luxury feature.
It's not the narrowest seat (about 17 inches at the widest), so three-across in a compact sedan is tight. It's not the lightest (around 9 lbs), but car seats are a workout regardless. What it is: durable, easy to use exhausted, and the one most certified car seat techs install fastest.
If you have an SUV or a midsize sedan, default to two KeyFits. If you have a Civic or Corolla and need three across, go narrower (Diono Radian, Graco SlimFit).
Why we say buy two
Two KeyFits, both new, both installed by a CPST or following the manual exactly. Twin parents always need two infant car seats. There's no shared scenario.

The decision behind this pick
Do I need two car seats for twins?
Yes, always. Each baby needs their own car seat from day one. The hospital won't discharge twins without two installed.
Why
Two babies, two car seats. Non-negotiable. The hospital won't discharge twins without two installed seats.
When to buy
